Though it's no secret that celebrities wear plenty of borrowed diamonds while walking award show red carpets, our editors spotted a set of very sparkly rings on Wicked star Cynthia Erivo at the 2025 Grammy Awards—and we think they're more than just fashion items. On February 2, 2025, Erivo walked the pre-show red carpet in a floor-length navy gown with a deep v-neckline, but all eyes were on her ornate manicure and statement-making diamond rings.

Erivo wore a pear-shaped diamond ring on the pointer finger of her right hand, which seems innocuous enough. On her left hand, however—the hand where you typically wear an engagement ring and/or wedding band—she chose a diamond infinity band and what appears to be a square- or cushion-cut diamond solitaire. Sure, these pieces could just be borrowed jewels she's wearing for the occasion, but our editors did little sleuthing, and Erivo has been spotted in that infinity band before, including on the Golden Globes red carpet last month.

Erivo has been linked to partner Lena Waithe since at least 2020, Cosmopolitan reports. And last month, also at the Golden Globes, Waithe was seen wearing a simple gold band on the fourth finger of her left hand. Are the duo engaged or married? Ultimately, neither has said a word about their relationship status, but it seems very much so in keeping with Erivo's personality to soft launch an engagement or hard launch a marriage.
Last year, the actress told People that she intentionally keeps her relationship to herself. “I’m very tight-lipped with my relationships, ’cause I don’t think that my relationship is for anyone else but for me,” she said at the time. “I spend so much of my life sharing everything—whether it’s my work or my soul or my life in speeches. I think I give enough of myself that I’m allowed to keep something for me.”
Interestingly, after Erivo wore a unique flower-shaped diamond ring during the Los Angeles premier of Wicked (with the aforementioned diamond infinity band), a TikTok account called onlynaturaldiamonds posted a video claiming that the ring in question was actually her engagement ring. The account said that the ring was a "1950s ballerina ring" with "two cascading layers of diamonds." Though it's not the same as the ring she donned on the 2025 Grammy Awards red carpet, the decision to keep wearing diamond rings—especially that diamond band—on that important finger feels like a clue.
