A Chic, Modern & Intimate Edinburgh City Wedding with an ASOS Dress

1 year ago 126

Francesca and Marco’s wedding was set in the heart of Edinburgh. This chic city wedding took place at the historic Riddles Court and was photographed with grace and sensitivity by the ever-talented Bernadeta Kupiec – one of our much-loved Love My Dress recommended photographers.

Francesca wore aa simple and stylish ASOS wedding dress and channelled her love for vintage style and 1930s glamour in the most effortlessly elegant way.

Their ceremony included a deeply moving handfasting and heartfelt vows spoken in the moment, made all the more poignant by the loss of Francesca’s father only a week before the wedding. From bagpipes and Harry Potter to a surprise proposal in the Alice in Wonderland maze at Disneyland Paris, this lovely couple’s story is full of meaning and joy.

I love vintage style and the 1930s and this inspired our whole wedding. From the oval-shaped book-style invitations to the dress and all the little details.

The Ceremony

Marco’s best friend Claudia officiated our wedding ceremony.

We had planned to write our vows in advance, but so much changed in just one month that in the end, we just looked into each other’s eyes and allowed our hearts to speak freely.

We had a Handfasting, a Celtic tradition that dates back to the year 1200. During the ceremony, we placed our hands together, palm to palm, and they were tied six times with a ribbon. The ribbon can be untied straight after the ceremony. Our rings were form an Italian goldsmith.

The week before the wedding, I lost my dad. He had planned a surprise for us, a bagpipe musician to accompany our entrance to the ceremony. After that, the music continued with Leaving Hogwarts from the Harry Potter soundtrack.

Our photographer was Bernadeta Kupiec – and the reason who chose her is because she looks at the world with love in the same way we do.

We’ve known each other since high school. Marco proposed to me in the Alice in Wonderland maze at Disneyland Paris – a special place for us because I collect Alice books. We’ve been together for four years.

The Reception

I’m a graphic designer, so I did our wedding stationery myself, with printing done by Cromojet.

We created personalised Lego minifigures for all our guests, customising each one to reflect their passions and interests – all from the official Lego shop!

Our cake was made by Cuckoo’s Bakery, who is sadly no longer trading.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

Planning a wedding should make you happy! Small disagreements might happen, but they shouldn’t spoil your day.

This time is for celebrating – it’s not a chore, so try to enjoy it. And most importantly, remember that perfection doesn’t exist. Everything will feel perfect if you just relax and enjoy the whole journey.
