24 Engagement Party Dresses for Every Kind of Party (2026)

By the Modern Weddings editors

Updated October 18, 2026: we checked every price and link.

The best engagement party dress matches the party you’re having. For a cold-weather dinner or a December toast in the yard, that means sleeves and some texture, like lace or velvet; for a cocktail bar, it means sequins. Our top pick is the BHLDN Lace Off-The-Shoulder Mini Dress, a fully lined long-sleeve lace mini for $248 that works from November through April.

Our editors compared listings at Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Shopbop, Quince and Nordstrom, read the fabric, lining and return details, and checked prices and in-stock sizes (where the store shows them) on Oct. 18, 2026. Below are 24 picks, one of them a two-piece set, in three price tiers. Most are white or ivory, four are for brides who’d rather skip white, and four go to size 3X.

24 dresses in this guide. Jump to: Under $100 | $100 to $250 | $250 and up

Engagement party dresses under $100

For the friends-only party where the whole budget went to the open bar

Kimchi Blue Feels Right Ruffle Lace Off-The-Shoulder Mini Dress

Model in the Kimchi Blue Feels Right off-the-shoulder mini dress in cream lace with ruffle trim along the neckline and down the front

Stretch lace and an off-the-shoulder ruffle neckline, plus a second ruffle that cascades down the front, all for $59. It’s lined in polyester, which you want with white lace. The cut is slim and curve-hugging, so if you’re between sizes, go up. It runs XXS to XXL in ivory (there’s also a brown).

$59 at Urban Outfitters

For the candlelit dinner where your best friend talked the restaurant into giving you the back room

Kimchi Blue Cross My Heart Asymmetric Lace Trim Satin Midi Dress

Model in the Kimchi Blue Cross My Heart ivory satin midi slip dress with black lace trim and an asymmetric hem, worn with black boots

This is the budget pick for a sit-down dinner: a satin midi slip with a plunging V, lace trim and an asymmetric hem that moves when you walk to the bar. The bodice has a sheer panel on purpose, so sort out your bra (or skip it) before the night of. It’s 45 inches long on an XS and runs XXS to XXL in ivory or black.

$69 at Urban Outfitters

For the wine bar party with 30 guests and exactly 12 chairs

Light Before Dark Fleur Jacquard Satin Lace Trim Slip Mini Dress

Model in the Light Before Dark Fleur ivory satin jacquard slip mini dress with lace trim and a draped side ruffle

The floral jacquard gives plain satin some texture, and that reads richer in photos than the price suggests. You get a lace-trimmed square neckline, adjustable spaghetti straps, a keyhole tie at the back and a ruffle that cascades down one side. It’s machine washable, a nice bonus after a night of passed appetizers. XXS and XS were sold out in ivory when we checked; S through XL were available.

$69 at Urban Outfitters

For the rooftop bar party that is absolutely ending in karaoke

Motel Tasarna Cowl Neck Sequin Mini Dress

Model in the Motel Tasarna champagne sequin mini dress with a cowl neckline

Built for the dance floor: allover cream sequins, a plunging cowl neck and a fit-and-flare skirt that spins. It’s lined, and the racerback holds the straps in place better than skinny spaghetti straps would while you’re singing into a hairbrush mic. Size M was out of stock when we checked; XS, S, L and XL were available.

$75 at Urban Outfitters

For the cocktail party where someone orders a round of espresso martinis in your honor

Lioness Martini Mini Dress

Model in the white Lioness Martini mini dress with short sleeves and a draped side tie with a ring detail

Padded shoulders and gold-tone hardware at the draped waist make this crepe mini look like it cost a lot more. It’s lined, has a crew neck and comes in a white Lioness calls Porcelain. Shopbop’s fit note says it runs small, so size up; sizes 14 and 16 were sold out when we checked, and 8 and 10 were down to the last few.

$79 at Shopbop

For the bride who’s saving white for the wedding and would like feathers in the meantime

Quince Ultra-Stretch Ponte Feather Trim Mini Dress

Model in the Quince black ponte mini dress with a mock neck and feather trim at the cuffs

Feathers you can take off: this black mock-neck mini has detachable ostrich feather cuffs, so you can go full drama for the toast and unclip them before you eat. Quince says it’s “crafted in a double knit ponte fabric that resists wrinkling, pilling, and fading,” which helps if you’re getting dressed two hours before you leave. It has side pockets and runs XS to XL.

$80 at Quince

For the bride who wants to glow in every photo without going full white

Quince 100% Washable Silk Slip Dress

Model in the Quince washable silk slip dress in champagne, a bias-cut midi with thin straps

Champagne reads bridal in photos without looking like you borrowed the wedding dress early. Quince says the slip is “crafted from washable, 100% mulberry silk,” a 19mm satin-finish silk, and you can wash it on a delicate cycle in a garment bag. The midi length is 46 inches on a size small. Sizes XS to XL are $89.90, and a separate 1X to 3X version is $102 in the same champagne. Silk shows every line, so check our bridal shapewear guide before the party. Quince offers 365-day returns site-wide, which takes the pressure off ordering two sizes.

From $89.90 at Quince

For the destination party where it’s 85 degrees in January and you’d like everyone to know it

Susana Monaco Strapless Tube Dress

Model in the white Susana Monaco strapless tube dress, a fitted mini

If your party is somewhere warm, this is the easy one: a super-stretch jersey tube with no zipper that rolls up into a corner of your carry-on. It’s partially lined and comes in a white the brand calls Sugar, sizes XS to XL. It’s short, just under 27 inches from center back on an XS, so pack flat sandals and save the heels for the photos.

$98 at Shopbop

Engagement party dresses from $100 to $250

For the December party at the hotel bar with the good fireplace

Baltic Born Rhea Sequin Short Dress

Model in the Baltic Born Rhea short-sleeve shift dress with silver floral sequins on an ivory base

Most sequin party dresses stop at XL, and this one goes to 3XL, with regular and plus sizes on Nordstrom’s page. It’s an ivory shift with silver sequins and ivory appliqué mesh florals, plus short sleeves and a round neck, so it sparkles without feeling like a New Year’s Eve costume. It’s fully lined with a little stretch. It ships from Baltic Børn through Nordstrom, and Nordstrom listed free 90-day returns when we checked.

$109 at Nordstrom

For the at-home party where the dress code is officially ‘nice sweater’

LSPACE En Route Sweater Midi Dress

Model in the ivory LSPACE En Route sweater midi dress with a keyhole neckline and a ribbed pleated skirt

Pull this on with knee boots and you’re dressed for a house party in February. It’s an ivory viscose-blend knit with a scoop neck and a small front keyhole, which is what moves it from airport sweater to party dress. It falls 51 inches from the shoulder and runs XS to XL, hand wash.

$147 at Anthropologie

For the December party where you’ll be outside for photos and it’s 30 degrees

Delphine Sweater Twofer Mini Dress

Model in the Delphine twofer mini dress, an ivory cable-knit sweater layered over a pleated skirt

It’s a cable-knit cotton sweater sewn onto a pleated skirt, so you get the warmth of a sweater and the shape of a dress without layering anything. The color is Eggnog, a soft ivory that won’t look stark against snow or a gray sky. The skirt is lined in modal and the whole thing falls about 33.5 inches from the shoulder, so add opaque tights and boots and you can stand in the yard for the group photo without shivering through it. It comes in standard (XXS to XL), petite and plus (1X to 3X) fits. For a party that moves from photos outside to dinner inside, this is the one we’d pick.

$158 at Anthropologie

For the bride skipping white and going full holiday-card red

Maeve Charlette Velvet Mock Neck Midi Dress

Model in the Maeve Charlette sleeveless velvet midi dress in deep red with a mock neck

Wine velvet is the color move for a December party, and the mock neck and cap sleeves keep it polished enough for a room full of your partner’s relatives. It’s a viscose-nylon velvet that skims rather than clings and falls 53.5 inches from the shoulder. Anthropologie makes it in standard, petite and plus fits, with plus running 1X to 3X, and there’s a black version if red feels like too much.

$188 at Anthropologie

For the backyard party at your parents’ house, where Aunt Linda has appointed herself photographer

Hill House Home The Joanna Dress

Model in the Hill House Home Joanna dress, a white sleeveless eyelet mini with a drop waist

Save this one for a spring or summer party on the lawn. It’s a white cotton-viscose voile mini with a smocked waist, eyelet trim and a boat neck, and it’s lined in cotton, which matters with a lightweight white fabric in full sun. It pulls on with no zipper and washes cold. Sizes run XS to XL, and a couple of sizes were down to the last few when we checked.

$218 at Shopbop

For the bride who’d like her something blue now, thanks

BHLDN Aurora Cowl-Neck Maxi Slip Dress

Model in the BHLDN Aurora cowl-neck satin maxi slip dress in pale blue with a side slit

Pale stone blue looks bridal-adjacent in candlelight and gives you a color nobody else at the party will be wearing. It’s a polyester maxi slip with a cowl neck and an open back, cut long at 54 inches from shoulder to hem. Sizes run XXS to XL, and it also comes in a green Anthropologie calls Tarragon.

$228 at Anthropologie

For the Sunday brunch party that’s mostly mimosas and the proposal story, told 14 times

STAUD Wylie Mini Dress

Model in the white STAUD Wylie mini dress with thin straps, a fitted bodice and a flared skirt

Wear it with a long camel coat and loafers when the party starts at 11 a.m. It’s a paneled stretch-poplin mini with a square neck and adjustable straps, lined in cotton so the white has some backup in daylight. It washes cold and runs 00 to 16.

$245 at Shopbop

For the restaurant party where you’ll be photographed between every single course

BHLDN Lace Off-The-Shoulder Mini Dress

Model in the BHLDN off-the-shoulder lace mini dress in blush with long lace sleeves

This is the one we’d buy first. Long fitted lace sleeves make it work from November through April, and the off-the-shoulder neckline and scalloped hem look bridal without looking like a dress rehearsal for the wedding gown. Anthropologie says “a fully lined interior structures the sheath frame,” so the lace isn’t doing all the work and the body-skimming shape stays smooth. It falls 32 inches from the shoulder in sizes XXS to XL. Unworn pieces with tags can go back within 30 days, which gives you time to try it with your shoes and your coat.

$248 at Anthropologie

Engagement party dresses $250 and up

For the bride whose Pinterest board is 90 percent Jackie Kennedy

Miss Circle Coco Boucle Tweed Mini Dress

Model in the Miss Circle Coco ivory boucle tweed mini dress with black pearl-edged trim and a pleated skirt

Boucle tweed is the classic choice here, and this one is a white wool blend with trimmed edges and a low neckline. The seller says “the supported skirt, combined with built-in bones, ensures a flattering and structured fit,” so it keeps its shape through a long night of hugs. It’s sold and shipped by Miss Circle through UO’s marketplace, so returns go back to the seller within 30 days (tags on), not to a UO store. Sizes XXS to XL, dry clean only.

$289 at Urban Outfitters

For the party your future mother-in-law is throwing (she’s already emailed you the guest list, twice)

BHLDN Satin Lace Mock Neck Mini Dress

Model in the BHLDN ivory satin mini dress with a sheer lace mock neck and flutter sleeves

Vintage is a safe bet for this crowd. A mock lace neckline, delicate cap sleeves and a soft drop waist give this ivory satin mini a vintage feel that plays well with your future in-laws’ friends from the club. The lace at the neck is sheer peekaboo lace by design. Sizes 0 through 12 were available when we checked; 00, 14 and 16 were sold out.

$298 at Anthropologie

For the black-tie-optional party at a winery in February

BHLDN Long-Sleeve Lace Maxi Dress

Model in a field wearing the BHLDN long-sleeve white lace maxi dress with a high neck

You’re covered wrist to ankle in this one: floor-length stretch lace with a mock neck and long bell sleeves. Anthropologie describes it as “woven from an intricate sheer lace” with a partially lined body, so plan on a nude slip or bodysuit underneath. It falls 60 inches from the shoulder, which means petite brides should budget for a hem. Sizes XXS to XL.

$298 at Anthropologie

For the New Year’s Eve engagement party, since you’re already the reason for the toast

Hutch Feather High Neck Mini Dress

Black-and-white photo of a model in the Hutch high-neck mini dress with feather trim at the neckline

The feathers are the whole point here. Faux feathering trims the high halter neckline and the open back, and the rest is a clean, straight shift that zips up and moves easily. It falls 32 inches from the shoulder in ivory, sizes XXS to XL. Bring a wrap for the walk between the car and the venue, since a halter with an open back is cold in December.

$298 at Anthropologie

For the bride who plans to rewear the top with jeans at the after-party

Mare Mare Satin Cinched Corset and Skirt Set

Model in the Mare Mare ivory satin set with a strapless corset top and a matching skirt

Two pieces means double duty: a strapless satin corset with internal boning and a lace-up back, over a long column skirt (61 inches) with a concealed zipper. Wear the set for the party, then wear the corset again with jeans or a blazer and get more out of the price. XL was out of stock when we checked; XS through L were available.

$318 at Anthropologie

For the formal party in a ballroom someone else’s parents booked

Norma Kamali Halter Drape Bias Gown

Model in the white Norma Kamali halter bias-cut gown with a draped neckline

Cut on the bias in lined satin with a cowl neck and a halter, this is about as close to a wedding dress as an engagement party should go. It pulls on with no zipper and hand washes. Bias-cut satin shows every seam underneath, so plan your underwear before you plan your shoes. XXS was sold out when we checked and several other sizes were down to one or two.

$355 at Shopbop

For the cocktail-bar party with a champagne tower and an overconfident DJ

BHLDN Sequin Mini Dress

Model in the BHLDN blush sequin mini dress with a square neckline and wide straps

Clean lines keep all these sequins from tipping into costume: a structured square neckline, thick tank straps and a straight shift shape. It zips up the back, falls 32 inches from the shoulder and runs XXS to XL in white. At $398 it’s a splurge, so buy it if you’ll wear sequins again on New Year’s Eve.

$398 at Anthropologie

For the evening party that’s basically a sneak preview of the reception

Miss Circle Tavia Beaded Teardrop Neckline Maxi Dress

Model in the Miss Circle Tavia maxi dress with white beaded floral embroidery on nude mesh and a keyhole neckline

If you want the party look that gets the most gasps, it’s this: allover white beading on mesh, a teardrop neckline with a standing collar and a maxi length of about 59 inches from the shoulder. The seller describes “white beaded mesh, underlaid with soft beige,” so it reads white across the room with a soft beige layer underneath. It’s fully lined in mesh and sold by Miss Circle through UO’s marketplace, so returns go to the seller within 30 days. Sizes XS to XL, dry clean only.

$499 at Urban Outfitters

What should you wear to your own engagement party?

Match the party’s formality, then go one notch dressier than your guests. A backyard party or a brunch calls for a cotton mini or a sweater dress. A restaurant dinner or a hotel bar is cocktail territory, and our guide to cocktail attire spells out what that means for hemlines and fabric. If the invitation says black tie optional, that’s your cue for a maxi.

You don’t have to wear white. It’s the fastest way for guests to spot the bride in a crowded room, but champagne, pale blue, wine velvet and black all look like an occasion, and you’ll wear them again.

Think about the photos and the venue together. Sequins and satin catch candlelight at a bar, while lace, knits and tweed hold up better outside in daylight. If you’ll be outdoors in December, pick sleeves and wear a coat you like, because it will be in half the pictures.

One more thing for a December party: expect at least one guest to show up with an ornament, and these engaged ornaments are the ones worth hoping for. Still working through the rest of the list? Our guide to the first 30 days after getting engaged covers what comes next.
