What Should a Junior Bridesmaid Wear? Style Tips and Ideas

1 month ago 112

Do you have a special little lady in your life who you’d love to include in your bridal party, who has outgrown the role of flower girl, but hasn't quite reached the maturity required of a full-fledged bridesmaid? Guess what? You just found your junior bridesmaid!

A special member of your wedding party, junior bridesmaids are typically between 8 to 16 years old (or whatever ages you feel are appropriate). 'But what does a junior bridesmaid wear?' we hear you ask. Well, here we are sharing a junior bridesmaid style guide and a few fabulous options for age-appropriate attires.

What Should a Junior Bridesmaid Wear?

Junior bridesmaids should wear something that's reflective of their age but not so youthful that it resembles the flower girls, which is a more difficult balance to strike than you might think. They should blend with the rest of the bridal party standing by your side. Depending on the bridesmaid dresses, your junior bridesmaids may be able to wear a more age-appropriate version (no low-cut necklines or thigh high slits!) of the bridesmaid gowns.

7 Tips For Junior Bridesmaid Style

  • There are lots of places you can find matching bridesmaid and junior bridesmaid dresses for the bridal party. Our favourites are Coast, Dresscode, Pamela Scott, Presley Blue.
  • Some of the more popular bridesmaid dress designers carry a range of dress sizes intentionally for this purpose such as Duntery, DessyDavid's Bridal, Revelry, Birdy Grey and Essence of Australia
  • Other stores carry special teen lines including Chi Chi Girls by Chi Chi London, Storm by Monsoon, Lipsy Girl at NextVery, TK Maxx or Etsy.
  • A great seamstress will be able to alter a bridesmaid dress to be more appropriate for your junior bridesmaid with modified necklines or with additions such as flutter sleeves, straps or even adding a little cape.
  • Most importantly, your junior bridesmaid should feel comfortable, try to offer a few options so they can choose something they feel comfortable with.
  • If you're still in doubt about a suitable look for her, the smartest thing to do is to ask the experts - her parents - for suggestions.
  • As with the rest of your bridesmaids, make sure you involve her in the decision to make sure she's feeling her best on the big day!
