Transform Your Wedding Reception With an Unexpected Table Arrangement: What to Know About This Design-Forward Trend

1 year ago 180

When determining the design of your wedding reception, you'll likely give careful consideration to the centerpieces, linens, and flatware. Such decisions are ultimately important; much of what your guests will see and focus on as they enter the space will be the tablescapes and place settings. However, rather than dedicating all of your attention to the pieces and arrangements on top of your tables, you may decide to lean into one of the latest trends—and curate the positioning of the tables themselves, shifting them into an unexpected layout or shape.

Depending on your venue, changing the arrangement of your tables can lend visual intrigue to your reception—and even facilitate a better guest experience. For example, by clustering a collection of round tables in a wave-like design, you'll allow for closer interactions between your loved ones, giving your celebration the feeling of an intimate dinner party. Yet, even though your design may be a bit more unconventional, remember that your table assignments shouldn't be. "Even in a nontraditional layout, the seating should be curated just as thoughtfully as a classic setup," says Susan Dunne, the owner and lead planner of Weddings by Susan Dunne. "I always encourage couples to embrace the uniqueness while being intentional by grouping guests by relationships, energy, or shared interests to foster natural conversation and connection. Even a well-designed table is not just about how it looks—it’s about how it feels to sit at."

Whether you're considering a curved arrangement, an X-shaped layout, or a clustered mix, here, we've rounded up nine examples for inspiration. Read on to see all of these showstopping designs.
