In 2023, Ed Sheeran announced that he had built a chapel on the property he and wife Cherry Seaborn share in East Suffolk, England. According to 2023 reporting by the Daily Mail, the "boat-shaped building," which also includes a burial chamber, was built to be a "retreat for contemplation, prayer and relaxation" for the singer, his family members, and close friends. Now, we know that Sheeran also had another idea in mind for the space: He wanted to be able to host weddings on his property.
Today, the Daily Mail noted that Sheeran's dream had been fulfilled, as one of his security guards tied the knot at the chapel. "I let other people enjoy it, like my security guard got married in my chapel and that was really lovely," the "Shape of You" singer explained. He did not, however, share the name of the couple who married there. "'We can hold 40 or 50 people, but it's, like, a crammed space," Sheeran had previously said of the chapel.
Sheeran and Seaborn were married in a relatively private ceremony, with just 40 guests and no media coverage. While it's unclear where their official wedding took place, we do know that it happened in December of 2018. It's possible it took place on Sheeran's estate, but the chapel wasn't completed at that point.

So, can anyone book a wedding at Sheeran's sprawling estate? Ultimately, it looks like the space is reserved just for his inner circle. That said, it's possible he'll change his mind down the line. "I know it sounds weird to build an infrastructure on your property, where you don't have to build it, but there are certain intimate moments you just want to spend with your family and not have someone filming you when you do it," Sheeran said of his reason for building the chapel in the first place. According to reports, he had tried to construct the chapel ahead of his wedding to Seaborn, but the local council rejected his original plans.
Sheeran isn't the first celebrity to transform a private home into a wedding-worthy property. Late last year, King Charles filed plans to remodel the royal family's beloved Balmoral Castle in order to potentially host events on site. Similarly, Pippa Middleton's husband, James Matthews, purchased a private property in Bucklebury, where the Middleton's grew up, and began taking deposits for private events.
