Childhood memories of summer gardens inspired this wedding editorial by Flossea, photographed by Lisa Jane Photography at rockwell Hall. The idea began with the feeling of being small among huge, heady roses and the extraordinary colours of a garden in full bloom, imagined here as an intimate celebration with abundant flowers and a subtle sense of the surreal.
Against the hall’s Georgian architecture, pastel floral installations spill from terracotta urns, with oversized fabric bows trailing amongst the flowers. That generosity continues at the dinner table, where linen falls into rippling pools and sculptural arrangements in pink and lilac create the setting for a long summer meal. Velvet Johnstone’s bridal designs bring their own expressive shapes and beautiful fabrics into the scene.
There’s plenty to inspire couples who want a small wedding with an adventurous approach to design, particularly in the way flowers, fabric and draping work together throughout. Here, Flossea shares the thinking behind the shoot and the childhood fascination with gardens that helped bring it to life.
The shoot was created to explore a contemporary and hyper-creative version of an intimate summer wedding, where guests would feel truly spoilt and in awe of the setting they were surrounded by.
Set against the backdrop of the historic Brockwell Hall, I wanted to complement the venue’s soft stone exterior and Georgian architecture with a delicate pastel palette, whilst still standing out from the crowd with my maximalist take on floral design.
I was inspired by the idea of a slightly surreal garden, and how it felt as a small child to walk through summer gardens in full bloom with huge, heady roses and the magical colours that nature is able to create of its own accord.
Turning to the dinner set up, I wanted to evoke a soft, sun-drenched summer dinner atmosphere and create something that felt rich & abundant yet intimate, with soft, tactile details.
The table linen was designed to cascade into rippling, stacked pools, almost like a decadent cake, with the floral sculptures in ultra-feminine tones of pink & lilac adding to the abundance.
The bridal looks were selected for their incredible fabrics and unique silhouettes, which connected with the flowers so beautifully.
