What should the mother of the bride or groom wear to her son's or daughter's weddings? This is the million euro question we get asked a lot! And the reality? There is of course no one answer. Without an old fashioned style book to consult, it does get trickier to decide what to wear, but thankfully gone are the days of rigid fashion rules and matronly pastel twin-sets! So where to look for inspiration? Of course we can pore over what celebrity mother of the bride and groom style is dictating (you can start here - and from Tana Ramsay to Victoria Beckham there are loads of great ideas) and have an idea of what style might suit us, but we think what might give you even more inspiration is to look at our Real Weddings, and some of the gorgeous looks we've personally seen and loved come through in recent times. So whether you prefer a sweeping gown or sharp tailoring, or comfort and structure are your best friends, here are 10 stand-out looks we love... 2. A mum of the bride in white lace and wearing chic and cult label Vampires Wife? Yes please! Throwing all conventional wedding rules out at the super cool and gorgeous wedding of Katie and Callum this summer. 3. At Anna and Richard’s breathtaking destination in France the dreamy fashion did just not stop at the bride's Oscar de la Renta gown! The mother of the bride similarly stunned in her cream Roisin Linnane dress. Love it! 4. Mothers of the brides all in white is definitely a thing and we are absolutely here for it! We love this look by mum of Gráinne at her daughter's wedding to Kieran, and note it was purchased at the popular family-owned boutique The Fashion House (a bit of a favourite among Northern MOBS and MOGs, we see) who carry labels such as Veni Infantino, Gabriela Sanchez, Anoola, and Couture Club. 5. At the wedding of Rachel and Junior the mother of the groom celebrated their Nigerian heritage, along with the family, wearing traditional Yoruba lace and agbadas, and created the most stunning visual highlight, coming down the aisle... 6. Another ensemble from The Fashion House near Belfast this pretty in pink look worn by Mother of the Bride of Ciara at her Galgorm Estate wedding to Niall. So very sweet! 7. In case you haven't noticed we do always love a dress wtih a ribbon or two here at One Fab Day! And at Rory and Dearbhail’s sun-soaked Marbella celebrations, the gorgeous mother of the bride wore such a fabulous beribboned gown from Venezuela boutique that we had to include. Both mother and daugher look incredible. 8. At Abigail and David's Castle Leslie wedding Abigail's mum was a beacon of sophistication in her phenomenal dove grey cape sleeve dress, with sparkling neckline, which she styled with a fascinator with a birdcage veil. "My mum's outfit was inspired by the white Tom Ford cape dress Gwyneth Paltrow wore to the Oscars." says Abigail. 9. How dapper is this groom in his Louis Copeland & Sons classic tux with satin lapels? Accessorising with a crisp white shirt and a black satin bow tie, Sean exuded timeless slickness on Virginia Park wedding day to Danielle. We adore his mother's simple yet bold dress by Irish designer Roisin Linnane in a vivid coral hue. 10. No round-up of stylish mums would be complete without including the fabulously stylish mums of the grooms of Rob and Shane at their recent 2026 South of France wedding.
