Mick Jagger and Melanie Hamrick Are Engaged! Here's Everything We Know About Their Wedding Plans

After years of speculation about their relationship status, Mick Jagger and Melanie Hamrick have officially confirmed their engagement. In an interview with Paris Match, the former ballerina told the publication that she and the musician had been engaged for “two or three years.” The couple met in 2014 in Japan while they were both on tour. At the time, Hamrick was with the American Ballet Theater and Jagger was with the Rolling Stones. The novelist appeared backstage at his concert and eventually connected with the singer. However, she said their initial meeting didn’t necessarily foreshadow their future romance. “Maybe a spark, but nothing incredible, like, 'Come on, I'll blow your mind and we'll travel the world,’” she told Paris Match. “We didn't even exchange phone numbers. At the time, I wasn't in a relationship, but he was.” The two ultimately reconnected four months later in Zurich and started dating. In 2016, Hamrick gave birth to the couple’s child, Deveraux Octavian Basil. 

While the couple only recently revealed their engagement, Hamrick has been spotted wearing a diamond on her left ring finger for a few years. In a 2023 interview with People, the choreographer played coy about the piece. “I mean, I have to giggle because did Mick give me the ring? Yes. Is it for that finger? Yes," she told the magazine. "But are we like, horny teenagers where we’re giving each other… In my mind, it's a promise ring. We'll be immature and call it a promise ring.” In that interview, Hamrick seemed unsure about the possibility of marriage between her and Jagger. When asked whether she saw herself walking down the aisle, she was candid in her response: “I don’t know. I'm kind of like, a live-in-the-moment type of person, so who knows."

Even though Jagger and Hamrick are officially engaged, the two don’t have any current plans to tie the knot. “Maybe one day we'll marry, maybe not,” the former ballerina told Paris Match. “We are so happy in our current life that I would be too afraid to change anything.” For the couple, their number one priority is showing up for each other. “We try to support each other, be there for each other, and make sure everyone is happy,” she told the outlet. “That's all that matters to me and all I strive for.”

In the past, this goal has resulted in the duo collaborating on pieces together. In 2019, they paired Jagger’s music with Hamrick’s choreography for the ballet Porte Rouge. Yet another such work may not be in their future. “I've been keeping work separate. For me personally, I prefer that because then it's kind of fun,” Hamrick told People in 2023. “We are in such similar careers, to keep it separate is better. You're working with the person all day, and then you're with them at night. It's like, too much of each other. And then it's nice to have outside opinions, someone that isn't in it with you. They can give you really solid advice. So I prefer the separation from work.”
