When Kris Humphries proposed to Kim Kardashian in 2011, he did so with a 16.21 carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring. The ring, which also included two 1.8-carat diamonds on each side of the center stone, was thought to be purchased by Humphries for over two million dollars. However, on a recent episode of The Kardashians, the reality star revealed that she had paid for 80 percent of the sparkler herself. In the show, Kim and her sister Khloé attend the Ambani wedding in Mumbai, India. While getting ready for one of the celebrations, they discuss each of Kim’s engagement rings, including the one from Humphries.
“I wonder what my next ring shape will be in my last and final hurrah,” Kim says to her sister in the episode. “A band,” Khloé responds. “Number one was a cushion-cut, 14-carat,” Kim says. “I still have it.” That sparkler, which was given to her by music producer Damon Thomas, was originally her mother’s. “Number two you bought from Lorraine [Schwartz],” Khloé says. “Yeah, which I had to give to Kris Humphries,” Kim says. “I didn’t keep that. I was pregnant with North, still married to him, and in order to divorce him, he said I had to give him the ring in my divorce.”

However, Khloé suddenly interrupts her sister’s reflection with another important note, adding that Kim herself paid for approximately four-fifths of the emerald-cut ring that was ultimately given to her by Humphries, while the basketball player was reportedly responsible for just a fifth of the cost. Yet even though the two are no longer together, Kim says she wanted to keep the sparkler, noting that she would have loved to have a collection of engagement rings. In the conversation, the Skims founder says she plans to give her first sparkler from Kanye West to the couple’s daughter, North.
Kim and Humphries tied the knot in Montecito, California in August 2011. The two, who began dating in 2010, announced their engagement in May 2011. Wasting no time, they married later that year in a televised ceremony. The wedding was featured in a special released by E!, Kim’s Fairytale Wedding. In addition to sporting her emerald-cut ring, Kim wore a Vera Wang gown for the ceremony before switching into a mermaid dress from the designer for the reception. However, the couple’s marriage quickly dissolved following the wedding, and Kim filed for divorce from Humphries on October 31, 2011, after just 72 days of marriage. A month later, in November 2011, the basketball player filed to annul their union, claiming fraud. Years later, in April 2013, he ultimately dropped his annulment request.
