The goal at Dreamers & Lovers? To help every bride feel "truly seen and at ease in her skin," says founder Yanique Barnes.

Bohemian brides have been drawn to the handmade creations of Yanique Barnes at Dreamers & Lovers since before Barnes was even selling wedding gowns. Barnes, a former Chanel boutique manager, started the line in 2012 to outfit women with a style similar to hers—those who “never quite fit the fashion mold,” she says. But when she noticed women ordering her everyday dresses for their weddings, Barnes realized an opportunity. “This wasn’t just about style, it was about freedom—to feel beautiful, comfortable, and truly seen,” she says. Finding your wedding dress is a deeply personal journey, not a transaction.”

More than a decade later, the brand (and their flagship boutique) is a go-to for brides who don’t find their style represented by other designers. “My favorite moment is when a bride slips into the dress and I see her whole posture change—shoulders back, eyes lit up. It’s more than just a fit; it’s a recognition of self,” says Barnes. “I get to witness that sacred moment when she realizes she was never too much—she was just waiting for the right dress to meet her where she is.”

My favorite moment is when a bride slips into the dress and I see her whole posture change—shoulders back, eyes lit up. It’s more than just a fit; it’s a recognition of self.

Still, as mainstream bridal trends evolve, they shift ever closer to the innate aesthetic Barnes has always championed. “It’s heartening to see the industry embrace what our brides have cherished for years: artisanal details, effortless elegance, and dresses that feel like a second skin,” she says. “I’m loving the return of lace, boho silhouettes, and the warm, romantic glow of buttercream hues. I’ll admit I’m biased—this has always been our world.”

The Dreamers & Lovers boutique in Torrance, California, is the brand’s flagship salon—but unlike the labyrinthine layout and overstuffed racks brought to mind by the word “flagship,” Dreamers & Lovers single-room shop has an earthy, natural simplicity: Rich wood accents, two vintage-styled loveseats, exposed ductwork, and a refreshingly streamlined collection of samples make the experience all about the bride—not the gown. “The best fittings happen when a bride stops performing and starts embracing who she really is. Forget trying to please the entourage—this moment is about you. Be yourself—fully and unapologetically,” says Barnes. “I’ve come to believe this work is sacred. When a woman feels truly seen and at ease in her skin, she walks differently. She carries a quiet power. That’s the moment we’re here for. That’s what we design for.”
