We are never shy here of letting you know how much we love the romance and theatricality that comes with a Regency themed wedding (remember how much we raved about the influences of Bridgerton?), so with the new Sense and Sensibility film hitting our screens last week, we had to take a scan for wedding ceremony and speech related quips that you might want to to use. The famous romantic line below actually comes from the 1995 film adaptation of Sense and Sensibility that was written by Emma Thompson, rather than Jane Austen's original 1811 novel. The 2026 film adaptation - which is directed by Georgia Oakley and written by Diana Reid - is actually a completely fresh interpretation that goes back to Jane Austen's original 1811 text, and we know proper Jane Austen fans will approve. The simple words below, that Edward Ferrars says to Elinor Dashwood after he is finally free from his previous secret engagement, we feel may be a bit flimsy for a reading but could make a sweet addition to your speeches or perhaps in your ceremony booklet or stationery. “I come here with no expectations, only to profess, now that I am at liberty to do so, that my heart is and always will be...yours.” Fancy another Jane Austen quote? Here is one from Pride and Prejudice. You can also get more great ideas for your ceremony readings here and be sure to follow us on Instagram!Quote from Sense and Sensibility
