Abigail Jung and Jackson Heck chose the beautiful and historic city of Toledo in Spain for their multicultural wedding on 11 March 2026, bringing together Abigail’s Korean heritage, Jackson’s deep Southern roots and the Catholic faith they share.
They married during a full mass at Santos Justo y Pastor, a breathtakingly beautiful old church bearing both Spanish and Moorish influence, before making the short journey to Cigarral de las Mercedes for dinner and dancing.
Abigail planned and styled the wedding herself, starting with green, a colour she has always loved, then adding pink to create the ‘Southern preppy’ palette you’ll see throughout these photographs. Norigae, traditional Korean ornaments, were attached to the bridesmaids’ and mothers’ bouquets, while further Korean traditions appeared in the couple’s rings and the gifts exchanged between their families.
Abigail wore a thrifted Maggie Sottero wedding dress with a super chic pair of vintage pink Ferragamo shoes, while Jackson chose a traditional morning suit. Their journey from Washington DC to Spain did not go entirely to plan but when they did eventually arrive, the talented and lovely Sam Sparks was on hand to capture their celebrations in beautiful 35mm film and digital format. The Venue & Location
I have always been partial to a color scheme which included green which was not hard to find in the lush grounds of the venue. Pink was a feminine touch which I think brought out the green. Some may say it’s “southern preppy”.
I wanted something deeply religious, which was evident in our ceremony. My husband and I felt it was important to exchange our vows in front of both our guests and God.
Our first dance was to Lalaland’s theme in tribute to Jackson and I rewriting the ending to that movie in choosing each other in the end. Because the city of Toledo is so beautiful and magical, we wanted our day to feel like a fairytale for both us and our guests. We prized guest experience as this was a destination wedding.
The Ceremony
Our religious ceremony was at Santos Justo y Pastor, an old Catholic church with both Spanish and Moorish influence which speaks to the rich history of the church and the test of time it withstood.
My father accompanied my down the aisle. I was so thankful I wore a dramatic veil that covered my face because I was holding onto his arm so tightly and crying (quite audibly). Thank God for the loud church organ. I believe I walked down to Ave Maria, but honestly, it could have been to anything. I was just thankful most of my guests couldn’t hear me sniffling.
Father Gustavo officiated our wedding. He is the priest of Santos Justo y Pastor, and we met him the previous year when we were scoping out Toledo as our wedding venue. Over the months, we developed a relationship with him, and thankfully, because Jackson is a Spanish speaker, we kept the conversation alive to this day. He is a special angel God sent us, and we are grateful for his prayers and goodness he has shown us.
It was a full Catholic mass which is interesting as nearly none of our guests were Catholic. I think only a handful of our guests got up to receive Eucharist. The standing up and sitting down definitively threw people into a loop; the thought of this cracks us up.
Our readings included Genesis 1:26-28, 31a, Psalm 128:1-6, Ephesians 5:2a, 25-32 and Matthew 19:3-6. I think these are the defacto ones chosen by the Church – but there were no complaints from either of us!
We used traditional Catholic vows. In a Catholic ceremony, there is little wiggle room for individuality/creative liberty, but that’s what drew us to it.
We had our rings made in South Korea during our visit over Thanksgiving. There are two tiny birthstones on the inside of both our rings – a yellow topaz and sapphire.
My favourite part of the day was walking out of the church with petals being thrown in the air. Seeing all of our guests lined up outside with so much love and blessing filled our hearts.

Our photographer was Sam Sparks. Sam’s editorial but natural style lured me in, and his fantastic personality sealed the deal. I wanted someone who I was going to have fun with on the day of my wedding.
How They Met
We were engaged on 11th July 2025 at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC where we both live, and were engage for eight months.
We dated for two years before we got engaged.
The Reception
My sister designed the invitations, and me, my fiancé at the time, and his brother set up an assembly line to put them together.
We also made the menus, table plans, place cards, etc but those were also in the lost suitcare.
We used the food and beverage service at Cigarral de las Mercedes. We used the cake service at Cigarral de las Mercedes. I always dreamed of having a three tier ivory cake with piping and swans.
We asked a friend who is a DJ to do us the honours at the reception and our first dance was to Mia and Sebastian’s theme from LaLaLand—the movie. We chose this as this was the first movie we saw together and it was a tribute to us “beating long distance”, career changes, and sacrifice. We like to think it was an alternate ending to one of my favourite movies.

Consider the full veil with the blusher. It added so much drama and anticipation in a way that I could not have fathomed before my wedding.
Also, straighten your back when you walk down the aisle; crying, hunched over is not a good look on any bride.
