Your guest book can act as a décor focal point and add a stylish or fun element to your reception - with just a few simple steps and often very little cost. The options for a crafty guest book are endless with some of our favourites being old-fashioned quilt guestbooks (where guests are asked to sign or customise fabric squares) or a canvas guest book which guests can sign in paint, markers, or mixed media and a couple can hang in their home.

If you have an iPad or compact video recorder handy, a DIY video guest book can be a fun way to get guests to interact and leave you messages. It's a particularly good idea if you don't have a videographer but would like some sentimental video mementos.

Tips and Hints for Creating the Perfect Wedding Guest Book

• Make sure to leave signage instructing your guests what to do. It might also be a good idea to ask a family member or good friend to oversee the guest book table/area reminding guests to sign so it doesn't end up half full.
• Provide lots of pens, markers, paper, ink... whatever it may be, so a few guests can sign at any one time.
• Test your pens in advance to make sure they work (and stay!) on the surface your guests will be writing on.
