While you may assume that a wedding cake must consist of round tiers, many modern couples are often selecting a different shape for their confection, opting for a square design. With clean, crisp lines and perfect 90-degree angles, there's something fresh and sophisticated about a trend-forward, pared-down dessert. Whether you're planning a contemporary-style celebration or simply want something different when it comes to your sweet treat, a square wedding cake is the perfect choice.
For a more feminine and romantic take on the angular confection, plan to top your cake with cascading florals or paint it, watercolor-style, in pastel hues. However, if you want to take a more minimalist approach, consider an all-white cake with a singular wispy floral topper or a smattering of berries. Regardless of the embellishments you select, such a dessert is completely customizable. Maybe you lean into the season of your nuptials with a rich color palette—or select in-season blooms for the sides of the tiers.
From geometric designs to sleek ruffles, here, we've rounded up some of our favorite square-shaped confections. Read on for all of the inspiration you need for your own big day.
